The draw has been made of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, with heavyweight clashes across the board.
Despite winning Group A, Arsenal FC copped a tough opponent for the first knockout match being drawn against German giants FC Bayern München. The two sides have met 10 times since the turn of the millennium, Bayern winning five to Arsenal’s three. Bayern has also knocked Arsenal out of the Round of 16 on three occasions; 2004/05, 2012/13, and 2013/14.
After finishing second in Group A, Paris Saint-Germain has been drawn against FC Barcelona for the Round of 16. The two sides last met in the quarter finals in both 2012/13 and 2014/15, the Spaniards winning out both times.
Real Madrid CF will face Napoli SSC in European competition for the time time since the 1987/88 European Champion Club’s Cup, while BVB Dortmund will take on SL Benfica, an opponent the Germans have been able to beat on the last five consecutive occasions.
Juventus will look to replicate its 1984 European Cup Winners' Cup final success over FC Porto, while Club Atlético de Madrid and Bayer 04 Leverkusen have been drawn against each other in the Round of 16 for the second time in three seasons, the Spaniards having prevailed on penalties in 2014/15.
There are two all-new matchups as well, with Manchester City FC set to face AS Monaco FC, and Sevilla FC up against Leicester City FC.
The first legs of the Round of 16 will be played between February 14 and 22, with the second legs between March 7 and 15.
