Axel Witsel leaves Zenit St. Petersburg

After four and a half years with the blue-white-skyblues, the Belgian international has moved to Chinese side Tianjin Quanjian.

Axel Witsel joined Zenit St. Petersburg in September 2012 and made 180 appearances (22 goals, 13 assists). The 27-year-old left a message of thanks to fans and officials of the club on his official website.

„After four and a half years in Russia, the time has come for me to move on.

I would like to thank everyone in St. Petersburg for these wonderful years filled with great memories. From the president to all technical staff, coaches, teammates, friends, brothers, sisters, and of course, all the crazy and amazing fans for their support and love.

I feel  proud to have made myself part of Zenit’s history and leave with 4 titles. I have full faith and I am 100% confident that the boys will be crowned champions at the end of the season. Petrovsky and the beautiful city of St. Petersburg will always hold a special place in my heart and I will keep following the club whenever possible.

I am now looking forward to get to work with Tianjin Quanjian F.C., meet my new teammates and begin my new adventure in China."
