Semi-final draw sees Madrid derby and Monaco host Juventus

The Road to Cardiff is nearing the end! Holders Real Madrid will play city rivals Atlético in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League. The other tie pairs French league leaders Monaco with Italian champions Juventus.

In their bid to become the first side to defend their UEFA Champions League crown, 11-time winners Real Madrid will have to overcome city rivals Atlético if they are to make it to a second successive final.

The tie is a repeat of last year’s final, which saw Real prevail in a penalty shootout.

Monaco are seeking their second appearance in the final, having made it through to the 2004 showpiece. With arguably the most exciting attack in Europe their fearless, young side will provide a stern test for Juventus.

The two-time winners from Italy last lifted the trophy in 1996 and their veteran keeper Gianluigi Buffon would dearly love to get his hands on the Champions League before his illustrious career comes to an end.

The first-legs of the semi-finals will be played on Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 May, with the return fixtures a week later. The winners will then progress to the final at the National Stadium of Wales in Cardiff on Saturday 3 June.
