Red Star reach the UEFA Champions League group phase
They have done it: For the first time in 26 years, Red Star Belgrade (Crvena Zvezda) managed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League! After a goalless first leg, a 2-2 draw against RB Salzburg was enough to enter Europe’s premier competition.
At the beginning, however, it very much looked as if the Austrians would came out on top. RB dominated the match for a long period and were 2-0 ahead midway through the second half – but then lost the margin in a spectacular fashion!
Ben Nabouhane scored a brace within 77 seconds and ensured that for the 11th time in a row, Salzburg failed in the UCL qualifying round. Instead, the guests from Belgrade celebrated the first participation of the group stage since the UEFA Champions League was introduced in 1992.
