Napoli held to a draw at Marakana

In their first ever UEFA Champions League match, Red Star Belgrade have achieved a considerable success and managed to wrest a point from favourites SSC Napoli. 50,000 fans at the Rajko Mitic Stadium saw the hosts denying every chance of their Italian opponents, eventually forcing a 0-0 draw.

Of course, a bit of luck was also necessary, for example when Napoli’s Insigne hit the bar after 18 minutes or when Rodic had to clear Callejon’s shot off the goal line. As a matter of fact, Crvena Zvezda could have scored the winner themselves in the closing stages but Ospina could hold on to Boakyes shot in the 81st minute.

Red Star can nevertheless be satisifed with the result: For now, Vladan Milojevic’s side gets second place in group C and remains unbeaten in the 2018/19 season. A good sign for the derby against Partizan on Sunday!
